We’re going to Ibiza!

We’re going to Ibiza!

From the yoga shala straight into the night clubs of Ibiza.

I just come back from a wonderful week at the yoga retreat in Mallorca. This was at a beautiful and serene Mediterranean finca. We had delicious vegetarian food challenging yoga practices and workshops and now I am completely zen. I feel wonderful but I don’t have much time to enjoy the afterglow of the retreat.

Propellor plane to Ibiza!

On the day we check out from the finca we fly to Ibiza, flipping the wheel 180 degrees. Ibiza is one of the most famous party islands in the world. My friend created a whole schedule of non-stop parties for 4 days. I am equally scared as excited. Partying is not my thing but I am happy to make an exception for my friends. Especially Rob, one of my best friends, enjoys a good party and because we don’t see each other often, I am more than happy to join the fun and spend some quality time together. Just like the good old days clubbing in China.

We are staying at a large and nice hotel called the Ibiza Twiins, it is right by the sea, has a nice large pool, several bars and restaurants and all kinds of amenities. It is a crowded but nice place to stay and recover from late nights and all the partying. On our arrival day, Anggina and I land in Ibiza around 1 pm and meet up with Dindi and Rob at the hotel. After an hour or so, Maurice (partner of Anggina) arrives and the group is complete. We chill a bit at the hotel lounge and get ourselves ready for a nice Spanish dinner opposite the hotel.

On the first night we go to a large club Amnesia, where Elrow is performing. This is a crazy, carnival style party. With lots of decoration, inflatable pool toys and performers hanging on ropes from the ceiling. They put on a real show and it’s very interesting to see. It takes some time for me to warm up to this crowd and the music but once the magic kicked in, it turned into a great night and we partied until sunrise. It was fun!

During the day we rest and my biological clock is completely messed up. When I think it’s only lunch time it is in fact already 5 pm. One of our objectives today is finding a decent car to rent. Especially taxi’s late at night to the club are extremely expensive, we are better off taking a car and I do not mind to be the driver and stay sober.  Later in the evening we go out to enjoy the sunset at a beach bar/restaurant called Experimental. It is a pretty basic spot but the views are nice and we see the sun disappearing behind the mountains while we enjoying tapas and a pitcher with home-made Sangria. Once the darkness had settled in and the neon lights of Ibiza turned on, we drive to the club Playa Soleil. The artist Black Coffee is performing, I don’t know what kind of music he plays but I like his name. They say he is good so I follow the group. It is an interesting night but the music suddenly stopped at 2am. The club is shocked and quickly drained out. I guess most people went on to the next club. We decided to call it a night and go back to the hotel. We continued a small party at the room of Maurice and Anggina, which was a lot of fun. I was feeling great and enjoying the chill music. It is 4 am, we are chilling in the room but suddenly there is a knock on the door… oops… sorry for the noise. The party is over and it is time to sleep.

In the coming two days I decide to skip the parties and have a bit of rest during the night. We visit the historical old town of Ibiza where we have dinner as well. It is a beautiful and very buzzing compact center where we had delicious food while watching street performers doing their acts; Acrobats, musicians, and stilt walkers. We are enjoying an evening walk around the 16th century old town. Like Maurice says it accurately; I am fifth wheeling with two couples. I don’t mind, I am still having fun hanging out with these guys and checking out the history of this town. It is in stark contrast with the modern day Ibiza and its booming night clubs and parties.

On our last day Maurice, Anggina and I decide to have a nice brunch outside the hotel, where the food is better than the hotel buffet and where the coffee actually tastes like coffee. It is our last day in Ibiza and another chill day by the pool. Anggina and I go for an hour hot Bikram yoga class; sweating our asses off for a good detox. I really enjoyed the exercise.

In the evening we drive to the Westcoast of Ibiza where we have a nice dinner at the coast, at a restaurant called s’illa d’es Bosc. We didn’t stay long and unfortunately there was not enough time to swim. For our last sunset on Ibiza we drive to a beautiful resort and sit down at the cocktail bar of 7Pines resort. We order a very expensive cocktail from a famous bartender that is invited to create cocktails at this bar for the weekend. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the cocktail I ordered but it is definitely one of the best I ever had (also the most expensive one I ever had); it is very smooth and soft, with rich flavors. The sunset is gorgeous and a perfect ending of a beautiful trip in Ibiza.

The next day we fly back to my cloudy and rainy home country; The Netherlands… yayy 😒(not!).

~ THE END ~
